Understanding Philanthropy's Role in Ocean Conservation

FundingtheOcean.org helps funders, NGOs, and support organizations spend less time mining data and more time making a difference.

The site connects the ocean community and provides centralized access to the data, resources, and tools needed to drive ocean conservation philanthropy worldwide.

About the Project

FundingTheOcean.org is a dynamic knowledge hub designed to track, inform, and inspire ocean conservation philanthropy around the world. It is a free resource aiming to level the playing field for everyone, global to grassroots, interested in saving our ocean.

The goal: to centralize and provide access to critical information needed by ocean funders and conservationists grappling with an increasingly complex landscape while working to improve the condition of the ocean, its inhabitants, and the livelihoods that depend on it.

This site provides public access to:

  • the most current and complete interactive funding map of global ocean conservation efforts including philanthropic, U.S. Government, and OECD funding data—all in one convenient location;
  • a searchable library of curated reports, case studies, and other relevant resources on ocean conservation; and
  • an online community for sharing knowledge and building relationships.
